E. Earl Blackwell was born in Reidsville, North Carolina. During his childhood development and adolescent years he was blessed to have had two loving great grandparents who instilled in him good manners and the love of Jesus Christ. His great grandmother had a very strong influence in his life. She encouraged him to study the Word of God even more so than his academics. His great grandmother was used by the Holy Spirit to prepare him for ministry. At the age of nine he told her he wanted to be a preacher of the Gospel. And it was she who told him about the Sabbath when he was ten years old. She was not able to explain it but told him that one day he would hear the message and he’d know what to do.
After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School (Bulldogs), He enrolled at North Carolina A & T State University. After a year and a half his life took a drastic turn and through many adversities he completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia Union College (presently Washington Adventist University) in Tacoma Park, MD. Because he had been an LPN while serving in the US Air Force Reserves he enrolled in the Nursing Program. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling Psychology. E. Earl then matriculated at Howard University’s School of Divinity in Washington, D.C. and received his Master of Divinity degree. He successfully completed his postgraduate work at Andrews University in Leadership and in the fall of 2016 will begin the Pastoral Counseling Ph.D program at Neumann University.
On May 21, 2016 Pastor Blackwell was installed as the Senior Pastor of the Southwest Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church (SWP). Prior to this assignment He pastored the following churches: Hadley Community SDA Church in Southeast Washington, D.C.; the Columbia Community Center of SDA Church in Columbia, MD; the Unity SDA Church in Frederick, MD; Millsboro SDA Church in Millsboro, DE; the First SDA Church in Coatesville, PA and the Rehoboth SDA Church in Reading, PA.
In addition to pastoring churches, Pastor Blackwell has been blessed to serve as Chaplain for the Pennsylvania State Police. In 2012 he was selected to serve as Senior Chaplain which is the top position of the chaplains. He holds the rank of Major and serves as a Chaplain for the Maryland Defense Force, a paramilitary group which works with the Army National Guard.
Over 31 years ago God blessed him with his confidant, advisor, and strongest supporter in the person of Robin Denise, his most precious gift and lovely wife. The union was blessed with two children, Ericka Erinn and E. Earl II (deceased). Ericka graduated from Pine Forge Academy in 2004 and after graduating from Lincoln University returned to Pine Forge Academy to teach science. He is the proud grandfather of Anayah, Saun, and Ethan. Additionally, he is the father of three beautiful older daughters who have blessed the Blackwell’s with four gorgeous grandchildren, the oldest of whom will be beginning her sophomore year this fall (2016) at North Carolina A & T State University. He and his wife have an adopted son, Brian Folson, who is a Deputy Sheriff in Dallas, TX. Brian and his wife Linda are the parents of two children.
Pastor Blackwell is extremely grateful to be in the service of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who has been so good to him. He declares that God has done more for him than he could ever imagine. He has opened so many doors that he cannot help but give Him all the praise and all the glory. His desire is that the work he does for the Lord speaks for him. To God be the glory!
